A FISH CALLED...

UNDERWATER
Marettimo is the paradise of scuba divers, underwater fishermen and photographers: its coasts with numerous submerged rocks, inlets and caves are the optimal habitat for many species of fish.

Punta Mugnone:
along the northern side of the shoal, the backdrops (20 to 40 m. deep) are rich in caves and fish, above all white breams, sea breams, "ricciole", "corvine", groupers). Since there are strong currents, this immersion is suitable to the most experienced, while the others can admire the beauty of the backdrops plunging next to the coast,
no more than 25 m. under the rocky walls

Punta Libeccio - Secca Cretazzo:
the cliff is low and for about 1 km. you can see a lot of emerging fish holes. Forwards the backdrops go down to about 20 m. depth and are rich in a very luxuriant flora, as well as in groupers, white breams and other precious fish. The immersion hasn't particular difficulties.

Punta S. Simone:
the ideal for underwater photography lovers, but only if very experienced, since the immersion is very difficult, aside from the presence of currents.

Punta Troia:
the wall, rich in sea fans, sea-anemones, sponges, crawfishes and moray eels, can produce interesting photos. From about 20 to 10 m. you can admire the cave with siphon, being careful of the currents, very strong also in depth.

Scoglio del Cammello - ("Rock of the Camel"):
the rock is an excellent occasion for photography lovers who want to do an immersion without difficulties. The immersion at the shoal, at about 700-800 m. from the coast, is suggested only to the most experienced scuba divers, who will see a lot of fish variety, among which moray eels, white breams, crawfishes, "gronchi".

Punta Bassana:
here the waters are rich in crawfishes, "gronchi", moray eels, white breams, sea breams and crossing fish. We advise not to go far away from the headland since there are very often strong currents.

Relitto ("Wreck"):
the place takes its name from the submerged wreck of a merchant ship which sunk about thirty years ago 800 m. from the shore. The immersion is rather easy and doesn't reach 30 m. indepth.

Grotta Sommersa ("Submerged Cave"):
very suggestive (inside the cave, some columns seem to hold up the vault), but only for professional SUBS. The visibility is sometimes very poor for the presence of sand.
